Around 150 passengers aboard a USAirways flight escaped a plane crash shortly before take-off after a tyre burst and its debris sucked into the engine. Philadelphia International airport, March 14th, 2014
According to witnesses of the accident, an Airbus 320 was hurtling down the runway when a tyre on front gear blew up and its debris got into one of 2 engines of the place, resulting in smoke. The pilot manoevered the plane to stop it, and as it was at a very high speed when the tyre blew up - the front gear collapsed.
There was no official report over the crash circumstances from USAirways.
According to numerous videos and photos of the crippled plane - it stuck on the airport runway at sharp forward pitch with its tail high in the air. Passengers were evacuated via inflatable slides deployed from the doors of the aircraft. Only one runway at the airport was closed with the misfortunate plane blocking it.
The airport commented on the passengers of the plane saying that 3 were injured in evacuation, not serious injuries. National Safety Transportation Board officials are heading to Philadelphia to find out the causes of the incident.
It seems likely to The Independent, that praise for the pilots and passenger crew for avoiding a possible major disaster are in order.
