Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, fights back as President Goodluck Jonathan says that insurgency in the region is caused by governors' failure to provide basic education for their people.
In response, Nyako yesterday claimed that poor country leadership was responsible for terrorism in the North.
He also stressed the fact that Jonathan, being the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian armed forces, is in charge of all security matters and cannot put a blame on the governors.
According to Nyako, they [governors] do not have any resources to handle "the level of sophistication displayed by the insurgents in their operations... Our states hardly receive enough allocations to even meet our most basic needs let alone spend it carelessly. In addition, we have the added responsibility of carrying the burdens of the Federal authorities in our state. Moreover, we do not have the moral burden of missing monies not accounted for on our heads as is the case with the Federal Government."
Meanwhile Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima refrained from such strong comments alleging that Jonathan might have been misquoted.
