Putin: "Crimea has always been a part of Russia". Agreement signed making the Crimea and Sevastopol a part of Russian Federation.
The signing ceremony held in Moscow, Russia started with a speech from Russian President Vladimir Putin ended in signing the agreement in joining the territories of Crimea and Sevastopol to the Russian Federation.
Putin adressed the Parliament in a joint session claiming that the results of the referendum held in Crimea on Sunday were legit. The results of the referendum stated that over 96% of residents of Crimea and Sevastopol wanted it to join the Russian Federation. Putin noted that the figure is "an extremely convincing” one.
In his speech he adressed the historical and cultural ties between Russia and Crimea.
Putin denied the invasion of Russia's armed forces to Ukraine, he notes that "they were already there", in the amount regulated by previous agreements - 25000 and that they were there to "prevent the bloodshed and protect peaceful Ukrainians and Russians living in Crimea from "nazis" and "extremists".
“We have not used our armed forces in Crimea,” Putin said. This is claimed despites what has been said by Ukrainian government and International observers.
As for the sanctions applied by the US government towards some of the Russia’s officials involved in Crimea crisis, like asset freezes, Putin noted that since the end of the Cold War, Russia has already been suffering from unofficial sanctions of the West.
Meanwhile in Poland
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and US Vice President Joe Biden held a press conference in Warsaw, where they denied all the comments of Putin.
Biden named the movement of Russia’s armed forces in Crimea ‘nothing but a land grab”.
Joe Biden spent 2 days in Europe in an official visit that included Lithuania and Poland. He assured the latter that the US stands by all the agreements and remains to be a “steadfast ally” and will protect NATO allies on Russian borders if required.
Biden also added that the guarantees of collective security remain the bedrock of NATO and that Washington is prepared to take further steps to strengthen this alliance in future.
According to Biden, US stands by its commitment to complete a missile defence system in Poland by 2018.
According to Dusk, the recent events in Crimea made Poland “deeply concerned” and thus he welcomed tighter military relations with the US.
Meanwhile in the UK
Britain has reportedly suspended all military cooperation with Russia on Tuesday, when Foreign Secretary William Hague expressed concern of possible further military escalations due to provocations in Ukraine.
The cancelled military actions included planned naval exercise of French, Russian, UK ad US and a proposed visit by Royal Navy ship to St. Petersburg.
Hague added that the EU council is meeting later this week and further sanctions against Russia will be discussed there with other European leaders.
"It was regrettable to hear President Putin today choosing the route of isolation, denying the citizens of his own country,
and of Crimea, partnership with the international community and full membership of a range of international organisations," Hague said in a statement to parliament.
UPD: Just now presumably Russian military forces are attacking warehouses, car parks in Southern navy base of Novoozrny and one man was hurt in an armed attack on a military base in Symferopil.
