Coach Stephen Keshi and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are still preserving the intrigue of which players got into the provisional list of 38 players. However, the Big Boss gave a clue on which feature unites all the men nominated.
According to the coach, the main feature a player heading to Brazil must possess is intelligence.
“I try to look for intelligence, which for me is the key. When you have that intelligence, your decision-making is so much better,” Keshi said.
Therefore, the list of most intelligent Nigerian players will be submitted to FIFA in about 14 days.
The second important quality is a burning desire and readiness to keep fighting in any situation.
“If I get them to have a winning mentality then they will be able to enjoy playing but to be a winner too. If you can have a combination of passion and winning, everything becomes a lot better,” Keshi noted.
The team has displayed similar qualities during AFCON2013. The Super Eagles started slowly, secured two 1-1 draws, but then the Super Eagles showed significant improvement and won the trophy.
Despite the list is more or less completed, Keshi noted that he won’t stop the process of building the team.
“If tomorrow I happen to see another high-quality, top-class player, I’ll bring him in right away, so I’ll never stop building.”
The coach promised that the team will play in offensive manner, in order to successfully pass the group stage of the tournament, just like Nigeria did in 1998.
Nigeria was drawn to group F. The Super Eagles will play Iran as their opening match on June 16, 2014, and then the clash with mysterious Bosnia & Herzegovina awaits them on June 21, 2014. The final game of the group stage will be against Messi and Co. on June 25, 2014.
