The residents vowed not to pay their March electricity bill until power supply improves in the area.
The were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions.
They said they were protesting against their DISCO, with the intention of putting an end to the continued blackout in their area coupled with the rising electricity bill.
They have indicated that they will not pay the current March bill.
Last week Tuesday, some residents of Ojota, Lagos State, were also seen with placards of various inscriptions moving from one street to another in protest of the epileptic power supply.
Some of the placards had inscriptions like: “No light no pay", "Three weeks in total darkness", "We will not pay", "All Ojota residents should stop paying NEPA bill’’ among others.
One of the protesters, who gave his name as Festus Okiyi, told newsmen that the move was to stop resident from paying electricity bills until there was regular power supply.
He said the peaceful protest was to bring to the fore the poor level of electricity supply in their area.
“It is time we take our destiny into our hands. We will no longer tolerate that” Okiyi said. “If the new buyers of the electricity companies cannot improve the supply of light they should stop collecting money from members of the public’’.
It would be recalled that a similar protest was carried out by Ilupeju residents, whom also told their neighbours to stop paying electricity bill until there was improvement in supply.
Meanwhile the Lagos State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Ben Akabueze has assured residents that there will be significant improvement in power generation in the next five years.
Akabueze gave the assurance after a meeting held at the American Room of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, on the sideline of the just-concluded seventh Lagos Economic Summit, LES, tagged Ehingbeti 2014.
