Three Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU Union leaders have been charged with theft at the Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court today.
The three Odeogbola James, 55; Egbewunmi Olalekan, 44, and Taiwo Oladipupo, 38 where said to have allegedly stole money belonging to FCMB and NASU.
The prosecution revealed that they had pretended to be borrowing money as loans on behalf of the union from FCMB, which FCMB gave them.
The prosecutor, Banji Sangotokun revealed that the charged persons had committed the crime from 2008 till 2011 at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Ojere, Abeokuta.
The accused individuals where NASU's regional President, Treasurer, and Secretary at MAPOLY, their positions gave them the opportunity to borrow the money as loans on behalf of the union from FCMB.
Odeogbola James, 55 was the president of the union and he borrowed N19.4 million, while Olalekan and Oladipupo both secretary and Treasurer took N17.9 million each without sharing it within the group as they had earlier agreed,'' Mr. Sangotokun, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said.
The Chief Magistrate, Anthony Araba who heard the case gave the order that the trio be remanded in Abeokuta Prison, Ibara.
