The major problems of the Nigerian military are mobility and intelligence gathering, a serving general disclosed to Leadership at the weekend.
He said that the military would put an end to terrorism in Nigeria within a few month if they could enhance mobility.
"Let me make it clear to Nigerians and the whole world: we have no problem of personnel and strategies but only in mobility. Mobility is the only panacea that can bring to an end the terrorist activities in the country," the general said. "We would have crushed those criminals within three months. Give us 30 powerful aircraft and see us bringing the terrorists to their kneels. We have all that is needed to overcome them but the mobility."
The general said that some of the countries that accused the Federal Government of causing delay in their coming to Nigeria’s aid in the ongoing efforts to rescue the abducted Chibok school girls, were mostly interested in the contracts of arm and ammunition.
"We welcome the support of the international community in our counter-insurgency operations. Their support has been long overdue; most of them had been playing lip service to the support which we have been asking for all these years. What interests them most is the contracts."
He asked those countries that are willing to help Nigeria find the missing teenagers, to support the military in mobility "and the next three months, the terrorists become history".
Admitting that intelligence gathering is another serious obstacle the military is facing, the general called on the foreign partners to support them with adequate and correct information.
This comes after the soldiers of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army located in Miaduguri, Borno State had blamed the lack of weapons – among other factors – for a mutiny that occurred in their barracks on May 14.
