A Maiduguri High Court judge has sentenced a prominent professor at the University of Maiduguri, Professor Bukar Bababe to five years imprisonment for fraud.
Professor Bababe, a former Executive Director of the Lake Chad Research Institute was found guilty of multiple-count charge bordering on high level fraud.
The professor is to serve his jail time without an option of fine.
Presiding over the matter, Justice Charity Mamza, said in her ruling that Professor Bababe and his co-culprit, Janada was to pay the sum of one hundred thousand naira each as cumulative fine for the four count charges.
However, counsel to the accused persons said they would appeal against the judgement.
