Ambassador, Said Djinnet, who is the Special Representative to the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), in West Africa, on Thursday said insurgency, which has become a world plague, can be eradicated from Africa by regional cooperation and nations sharing military and security intelligence with each other.

The UN envoy, who made this known while addressing newsmen at the UN headquarters in Abuja, said: "I expressed the support of the UN to the efforts of Nigeria to restore security in the affected areas with due respect to human rights".
Djinnet while speaking on the security situation in the North eastern part of Nigeria, said: "I also reaffirmed the UN’s support to Nigeria within the framework of the UN global counter terrorism strategy".
He reiterated that terrorism issues, both in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, like the Boko Haram, the El-shabab and other groups, what is needed is regional cooperation, and sharing of military intelligence.
It would be recalled that over 234 female students were kidnapped by insurgent members on April 14, from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
The move by the Islamist has generated a lot of reactions from international community, whom have promised to assist the federal government in finding and rescuing the abducted girls.
Meanwhile, it's been a month and two days now since the girls were taken from their school and nothing tangible has been done to recover them. The girls were seen in a recent video posted on social media by the Islamist sect leader, Abubakar Shakeau, with over 80 of them recognised by their parents and wards.
The sect leader in his demand, requested an exchange of the girls for his detained brethren across the various cells and prisons in the country, a demand that has however, generated lots of controversies among top government officials and organisations.
