Tragedy struck at Ijeh Police Barracks, Obalende, area of Lagos State, as a yet to be identified Police Inspector and his wife reportedly fell from the balcony of their apartment on the second floor of a two-storey building.
The Police officer and his wife were said to be fighting on Thursday afternoon, August 28 at their apartment when the incident occurred.
Residents said the couple, while fighting, dragged each other to the balcony of their apartment and when the fight became intense, they lost balance and fell from the building.
It was gathered that neighbours rushed the couple to a police hospital at Ikoyi, Lagos, where the doctors on duty confirmed the officer dead due to the serious head injuries he sustained, while doctors are battling to save his widow who is still in an intensive care unit.
Neighbours of the couple who confirmed the incident, however, could not ascertain the cause of the fight.
It was gathered that the remains of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue in the state, while a source confirmed to PM News that the wife was still unconscious when he visited the hospital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide, is yet to comment on the incident.
The identity of the Inspector is yet to ascertained but he was said to come from Nasarawa State, while his wife is from the eastern part of the country.
